Wilmette, IL- The Regina Dominican Varsity Basketball Team won the Super-Sectionals last night, securing a spot in the final four and will be heading down state to compete on Thursday, February 29, 2024, where they will face Peoria- Notre Dame.
The Regina Dominican Panthers won 53-40 over Wendell Phillips High School in the IHSA Super-Sectional Championship last night. This is the first time in 20 years that the Panthers have made an appearance in postseason competition, only proving the fierceness and dedication of this team.
“We are full of gratitude not just for our players but for all the students at Regina Dominican. They get to share in this, they are not just spectators. Their fingerprints are all over the trophies that we have won to get us to where we are today.” said Assistant Coach, Joe Fabianski. “We as a program are grateful to have the Regina Dominican student body as partners on this journey. The spirit of Regina Dominican is unmatched, and you won’t find that at any other school. If you want to see an example of that spirit, see the joy on our bench.”
The varsity team has two current seniors, Payton Olzewski and Maddie Witchger, who have paved the way for the fairly young team to continue earning back-to-back-to-back regional titles and beyond. The Regina Dominican Panthers will bring quite the fanfare, bringing the Panther Pit with them to Normal, IL for Thursday’s game against Peoria - Notre Dame. On Wednesday, February 28, 2024 the school will hold a Pep Rally during their all-school morning meeting and then end the day with the tradition of “Running of the Halls” before the team boards the bus to Normal, Illinois.
Help us cheer on the Panthers on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at Redbird Arena at Illinois State University. Tip-off is at 2:00 PM and tickets can be found by visiting GoRedbirds.com/tickets.
