Regina Dominican High School Coach, Bob Newton, named IBCA Coach of the Year

Wilmette, IL - Regina Dominican basketball coach Bob Newton has been recognized as the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association (IBCA) Coach of the Year for Class 2A, District 4.  This marks the 2nd straight year that coach Newton has been recognized by the IBCA.


This season, Newton led Regina Dominican to a 25-11 record and the school’s first trip to the IHSA State Finals since 2003. Coach Newton has been at Regina Dominican for 12 seasons and has an overall record of 181-156.  He is 2nd all time in school wins behind legendary Regina Dominican Basketball Coach, Mike Small, who has 213.

"Congratulations to coach Newton on being recognized by the IBCA.  There is a lot of great basketball played in the state of Illinois and a lot of high level basketball minds.  To be recognized by the IBCA is a special honor.” stated Regina Dominican Athletic Director Brian Mancuso.  “Coach Newton is a first class coach and a first class individual.  We are lucky to have coach Newton as a part of the Regina Dominican community."

In addition to Coach Newton’s recognition, Regina Dominican Senior, Payton Olszewski, has been selected to play in the IBCA Senior  All Star Game at Pontiac High School on June 8th at 11AM.

Payton was the starting point guard for the state finalist basketball team, the first time the Panthers played in the state finals since 2003. Payton was also a member of 3 Regina Dominican regional championship teams.
