Regina Girls Lead: Regina Dominican High School Students Champion Girls' Rights at UN International Day of the Girl

Wilmette, IL- Regina Dominican High School is proud to announce that three exceptional juniors—Esthela Gemoets, Courtney Park, and Rowan Daly— represented Regina Dominican at the United Nations in New York City on October 11, 2024, at the International Day of the Girl-Girls Speak Out! & Action Conference. This prestigious event focuses on empowering girls and addressing the unique challenges they face globally.

The theme for this year’s forum is “Girls' Rights in the Future,” emphasizing the importance of investing in girls today to create a brighter tomorrow. By participating in discussions and activities aimed at amplifying girls' voices, the Regina Dominican students engaged with peers from around the world to advocate for safe, educated, and healthy lives for all girls. They were also able to sit down and meet with Oscar Báez who serves as a political advisor to  to US Ambassador Linda-Thomas-Greenfield.

This event is particularly significant as it aligns with the UN's recognition of October 11 as the International Day of the Girl, a resolution adopted in 2011 to highlight the rights and challenges faced by girls globally. Regina Dominican High School is dedicated to challenging young women to be  independent thinkers relentless truth-seekers, and confident, compassionate leaders, making this experience a perfect extension of their mission.

Joining the students on this once in a lifetime opportunity are Principal Dr. Kassie Porreca, Assistant Principal Verna Allworth ‘77 (a proud Regina Dominican alum), and Julie Koenigsberger, Director of the Leadership Institute.

Join us in celebrating these inspiring young leaders as they advocate for girls’ rights and contribute to shaping a better future for all.
